Going Places

Locomotor and Non-Locomotor movement is the focus of the Going Places Tutu Tales lesson plan.  Students learn the difference between a movement that helps them "go places" and movement allowing them to "stay home."  A suitcase prop helps children understand when to move around the room and when to move in place.  They love pretending to travel as well as settling into their destination for a time of fun.

Recommended Resources:

  • “A Dragon in a Wagon” by Jane Belk Moncure, or another travel-related book of choice
  • Small cases with handles that resemble suitcases for travel (Craft stores are a good source for small, inexpensive, and usable cases.)
  • Movement Cards containing Locomotor & Non-locomotor movement words
